Estimate of the Situation - How to Remove Car Rust

Having never done, or any other body of work on the car, it took me a while to understand what I wanted to do. My original plan was that the whole wing off, but after inspecting too many difficulties and would require me taking apart the car in front of the lot. Instead, I Jacked the car, then I pulled the wheel. I unscreued plastic thing protecting the wheel and set it on the side. For me, it's really a good way to see behind the plate of the car. I originally beat the depression in the top of the wing, but space was tight and I could do it easily. Take the wheel and open to help when I was sanding and painting

Delete Color
The first thing I did was remove the paint around the rust. I used 4 1 / 2 'grinder with 120 grit 3M Sandblaster wheel worked well to remove thin layers of paint and primer .. I have worked my way around the rust stains and eliminate color that I could see some rust clean metal and I can wheel is used to remove all the lights that do not rust pitted metal .. Note: Before grinding, cover up something that you do not want dust paint dust is super fine and blankets. everything that I opened my lids help to access some rust, so. I tarp to cover the engine. with windows rolled up here will be a bad idea.

Grind some more
After that, I have everything I could with the wheel, I changed to metal grinding. When you use it, be extremely careful because you can do much damage. I worked very slowly so I can have a nice finish on the metal. It was really nice to have taken a heavy rust off and fall into the pit. After 99.9% of the rust is removed, I sanded by hand (with sandpaper 120 grit 3M Sandblaster) to Nice smooth metal. If I wanted I could be Bond even some of the students and fill the space where the missing color

Preparative Image
I went to Napa Auto Parts of finding a primer and paint. I found some really good primer that is ideal for painting on bare metal: Double-Color Self-Etching Primer. Then I found some spray car match my car color: Dupli-Color Auto Spray metallic gold in Sunburst. All that I followed the instructions on the back of primers: Mixed Up I'm a little soap for washing and water washing and the areas I wanted to paint. Then I grit wet sandpaper 400 and sanded the area, then wipe. Then I masked the area with tape, then saved all the newspapers of the surrounding area within at least three feet. Spray paint can get anywhere, because you suspended in the air and dispersed into the air and quiet somewhere. Once everything was hidden, I was ready to begin.

Prime, Paint
When applying color, it is important to spray thin and retain more. The colors that I used is really cool, and then very well. A maximum of three layers of finished product in primer, waiting about two minutes between each coat to tack. I let that sit overnight and the application of color in the morning. I had to spray paint on even thinner because he really wanted to run and sag. I finished five layers of paint on top of the primer. It gave me a beautiful color and nice finish. I caught at least 24 hours before I took the tape. Paint it went very well and it seemed like a speck of rust on the old. Color was not quite the same as the old, but very close. In addition, it was not clear coat over him finish so it was slightly different. I did not bother sanding the edges so that color mixed with old paint.

Wash and wax
After the paint cured for 48 hours though, I washed and waxed the car to glory. It ended looking very good. It cost me under $ 15 and 4-6 hours. I spent an extra hour from 4 to wash and wax. If I take him to the body shop, it could cost me $ 200. So I saved a lot of money but I enjoy their own work, which is the best part.
